Events on public roads - apply for a permit and traffic order

Events on public roads usually take up more space than is customary. You therefore require a permit to organise such events.

You need such a permit for the following events in particularnevents:

  • Motorsport events with motorbikes
  • Races with motor vehicles
  • Special rally stages
  • Classic car events
  • Cycle races
  • Triathlon-Vevents
  • Popular cycling

  • Relay races

Parallel to the permit, a traffic order must be applied for from the traffic authority.

Tip: Larger events on public roads must bescarefully planned and organised, for example with regard to safety or environmental protection measures.

You should therefore discuss the details with the responsible road
ntraffic authority.

Responsible department

  • the road traffic authority of the place where the event begins: city administration or district office
  • if the event (e.g. a cycle race) also leads to another federal state:
    the regional council in whose district the event begins
  • if the event leads from another federal state to Baden-Württemberg:
    the regional council whose district is entered first

Details

Prerequisite

  • The organisation of the event on public roads is compatible with general traffic.
  • The routes are suitable.
  • You have taken adequate safety measures.
  • An organiser organises and runs the event responsibly.
  • There is adequate insurance cover.
  • Other relevant authorities have no objections.

Procedure

Apply for the permit and the traffic law order from the competent authority. You can do this in person, in writing or digitally.

The local road traffic authority will draw up the authorisation requirementsssitions together with

  • the person making the application,
  • the other authorities affected by the planned special use and the police
  • the police.

The competent authority will send you, as the applicant, the approved application in the form of a traffic order, possibly with conditions and requirements, as well as the permit in the form of a notice.

Deadlines

Submit the application in good time, as the approval process can take up to 2 months for measures that require extensive coordination.

Required documents

  • complete application, including necessary additional documents such as traffic sign plan, site plan, photos or sketches, which you must submit to the authorising authority on request
  • Proof of liability insurance cover
  • RSA qualification certificate in accordance with MVAS 99RSA stands for guidelines for the road safety of road works.
    Every person who carries out road safety measures must be qualified in accordance with the MVAS 99 leaflet.

Costs

depending on the fee schedule and the workload of the competent authority

  • The nature and extent of the impact on the road
  • the economic interest of the applicant
  • The duration of the restriction of the road space
